My Helpful Tips

  • Write everyday, no matter how many words you get on paper/screen.
  • If having trouble with a scene – picture it as a movie, if you were watching your story play out on the big screen, what would you most like to see happen?
  • Emotional writing comes pretty easily for me, as I’ve been told and I would agree I am a VERY emotional person.  If you struggle with this it helps if you are in the right mind frame.  Use music, watch a scene from a movie/tv show to get you in the mood.  Then when you are ready, put yourself in your hero/heroine’s position, how would you feel if that was happening to you?  Dig deep down and pull those emotions out.
  • Carry a tape recorder and a pad of paper and writing instrument with you at all times, you never know when ideas will pop into your head.
  • Before you submit a story make sure to read submission and format guidelines
  • Do your homework before you submit - know who you are submitting your story idea to.  Make sure it fits their line of books
